BRILLIANT — The Brilliant Tigers’ season came to an end after a 41-0 loss to the visiting South Lamar Stallions on Friday night, Oct. 28.
South Lamar took the lead early in the first quarter, leading 27-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers started to drive as the second quarter began, but an intercepted pass gave the Stallions another touchdown, putting them ahead 34-0 with 7:25 to go in the first half.
On the Stallions’ next possession, the Tigers held the line on defense, but on fourth down the Stallions completed a long pass to score again for the last touchdown of the game with 2:06 left in the first half.
The Stallions maintained their 41-0 lead for the remainder of the game.
The Stallions received the kickoff to begin the second half, but their possession ended with a punt on fourth down.
On their possession, the Tigers started to gain some yards, starting with a 20 yard run from Brilliant’s Jerry Lothrop.
Luke Norris ran on third down to get the first down and then some. But on the following drive, on third down, a pass was intercepted, and the Stallions were back in control.
The Stallions were able to hold on for the remainder of the game, and the end of the fourth quarter was also the end of the Tigers’ season.
The Tigers ended their season with a record of 0-10.
Although Brilliant went through a winless season, their younger squad will be able to use the year for experience. Brilliant’s football team has three seniors this year: Evan Smiley, Brodie Wyninger and Christian Darracott.
