HUNTSVILLE — Four Marion County teams ended their seasons at the North Regional tournament last week at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
Phillips advanced the farthest, sweeping the Waterloo Cougars in three sets, winning 25-23, 25-16 and 25-14 in the first round of the Class 1A regional tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
The Bears advanced to take on the Spring Garden Panthers that evening, who in turn swept the Bears 3-0 and knocked them out of the tournament.
Marion County lost 3-1 to the Woodville Panthers in the first round. The Lady Raiders lost two close sets at 26-24 and 25-23, before winning the third set 25-20.
But the Panthers held them off in the fourth set, ending the Raider’s regional run with a 25-21 victory.
The Brilliant Tigers’ season also drew to a close on Wednesday morning after they lost three sets in a row to the Athens Bible School Trojans at 25-15, 25-14 and 25-16.
The Winfield Lady Pirates played in the first round of the Class 3A North Regional tournament on Thursday morning.
The Lady Pirates faced the Geraldine Bulldogs and also saw their season come to an end after losing three sets back-to-back to the Bulldogs at 25-9, 25-10 and 25-16.
The Lady Pirates ended their season 10-15, the She-Bears ended 14-10, the Tigers ended 12-11 and the Raiders ended 12-14.
