BIRMINGHAM — The Winfield boys’ indoor track team claimed its fifth state championship on Friday, Feb. 4, at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The Pirates won with 99 points, beating Montgomery Catholic (57 points) and Mobile Christian (49 points) by a wide margin.
Several boys won their events. Phoenix Sandlin finished first in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.05 seconds. Andrew Wallace placed fourth with a time of 7.21.
The boys’ 4x200 meter relay team won with a total time of 1:32.12, a record for the team. The relay team consisted of Wallace, Sandlin, Rain Nolan and Jarrett Hosch.
Wallace also claimed the boys’ long jump, with Kade Estill also placing sixth in the event.
Wallace won triple jump as well, with Kade Estill once again earning even more points by placing third.
