Longtime funeral director, coroner dies at 68

HAMILTON – A prominent funeral home director and longtime Marion County coroner has died.
George Randall “Randy” Jackson, 68, of Hamilton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, at St. Vincents Hospital in Birmingham. He served in the funeral industry for over 53 years and was the owner and operator of Hamilton and Hackleburg Funeral Homes. He began in the industry at the age of 14 under then-funeral directors Earlie and Kenneth Jeffries, who had opened the funeral home in 1940. He was hired to take care of the lawn.
Earlie Jeffreys died in 1984 and Jackson purchased the funeral home from Kenneth Jeffreys in 1986. He expanded the company to serve the Town of Hackleburg in 1993.
