Longtime editor receives lifetime recognition

ORANGE BEACH - Les Walters received the Alabama Press Association’s (APA) lifetime achievement award during the newspaper association’s annual conference held at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach on Saturday, June 26.
Walters retired as editor of the Journal Record in November 2019, concluding a 41-year career in journalism. He has since stepped back  on with the newspaper as an associate publisher part-time to assist in copy editing.
Walters was joined in Orange Beach with his wife of 40 years, Sheri Gilliland Walters, and Mid-South Newspapers Publisher Horace Moore, Mid-South Newspapers General Manager Mike Moore, and Journal Record General Manager Scott Johnson, who nominated Walters for the award.
