HAMILTON - Officials are taking substantial steps toward a new Marion County Jail.
The Marion County Commission unanimously voted during a meeting on Monday, June 14, to allow contracts to be signed with Fayette architectural firm Jim Berry & Associates and WAR Construction of Jackson, Miss., for the construction of a long-awaited new jail facility. The same duo assisted in the construction of the new Fayette County Jail facility which opened in September 2019.
Marion County Administrator Kalyn Moore explained that contracts have not been drafted or signed, but the decision empowers Marion County Commission Chairman Kenneth Cochran with the ability to move forward when all parties come to an agreement on the details of documents.
