Sunday, March 21, will mark one year since the first confirmed case of  SARS-CoV-2 was found in Marion County.
Hackleburg Mayor Daryl Colburn broke the news via social media on Saturday, March 21, 2020, that a resident in the town who traveled from another state recently had tested and confirmed.
“It’s crazy to think about,” Colburn said, “It doesn’t seem like a year ago.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the virus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is not the same as the coronaviruses that commonly circulate among humans and cause mild illness, like the common cold. The virus was first identified in an outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in late 2019. By March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization had declared the situation a pandemic.
