Brenda Hill Barger

Brenda Hill Barger, 70, Guin, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, in the Hendrix Health Care in Double Springs.
She was born in Alabama to the late Floyd and Vera Hodge Hill. She lived in Guin and Cottondale most of her life, and attended the Guin Church of God. She was a CNA and owned a used furniture store in Guin.  
Ms. Barger is survived by a daughter - Angela Freeman Jones, Guin; two sons - Lonnie Dale Freeman, Dora, and Ronnie Lee Freeman, Sayre; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.   
She is preceded in death by her husband - Jerry Wane Barger; and brother - Jimmy Hill.
A private family service was held on Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, at 12 p.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Guin City Cemetery.
Bro. Zane Miles was the officiating minister.

Charles D. Langley

Mr. Charles D. Langley, 87, Guin, passed on to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020.
At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his family and friends in prayer at his residence.
Mr. Langley is loved and endeared by so many. He was born on July 26, 1933, to Franklin and Betty Langley in Marion County. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954. While in the army, Mr. Langley learned how to build and excavate using heavy equipment. He came back to his much-missed home and put his skills to work.
Whether it was driving a truck, or operating one of his many businesses from homebuilding, welding, restaurant, and sawmill owner/operator, he was always wanting to put people first. In the early 1980s, Southern Living magazine featured the beauty of his log homes located throughout the southern United States.
Today, many of his log buildings can be seen dotting the landscape around the City of Winfield and Guin. Mr. Langley knew his blessings came from a higher power. His relentless pursuit of the Word of the Lord made him an avid reader of the Bible and a teacher of the Word to many.
He is survived by his daughter - Betty Ballard, Winfield; grandchildren - Chastidy (Louie) Bode, Birmingham, Ashley (Jeff) Stephens, Birmingham, and Brennan Ballard, Winfield; great-grandchildren -Everly and Grayson Stephens, and Noah Bode; a brother - Arnold Langley, Yampertown; sisters - Vera Merritt, Winfield, Tracie Cook, Huntsville, Judy Hubbert, Winfield, and Linda Trull, Winfield; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Langley was preceded in death by his parents - Franklin Jefferson Langley and Betty Hollis Langley; brothers - Joe Morris, Andrew and Horace Langley; and an infant sister.

Mary McDonald

Mary McDonald, 85, Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, at Shelby Ridge Rehab.
Ms. McDonald was a singer with the senior citizens group at Winfield First Baptist, the "Keenagers”. She enjoyed singing at the nursing homes and loved to travel with the seniors group. She was a nurse at Winfield Hospital and she loved her patients. She also enjoyed flowers, working in her yard and loved her grandchildren dearly. She was an Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son - Neal S. (Rima) McDonald; daughter - Debbie (Packie) Lawrence; sisters - Imogene Tolley, Shirley James, Lynn Driggers; grandchildren - Chad and Magon Lawrence, Mandy and Brad Cox, Mary Beth and Chris Robertson, Tara and Melissa McDonald, Kristina and Allysa McDonald; and eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents - James and Ester Mitchell; and brothers - Junior Mitchell, Billy Mitchell, and Vann Mitchell.
The funeral service was held on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020 at 4 p.m. in Green's Chapel Cemetery, Cleveland.

John David McDonough

Mr. John David McDonough, better known as Dave, 82, Winfield, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, in the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss.
Mr. McDonough was born in Peoria, Ill., on Oct. 21, 1937, to Donald and Doris M. McDonough. He was a 1955 graduate of Peoria High School and a graduate of Berean Bible College. Mr. Mconough was a minister and delivered food for the McDonough Ministry and Foodbank in Newport News, Va.  
Mr. McDonough was a member of Faith Fellowship Church of Winfield and he taught the Men’s Bible Study class and was head greeter for the church. He was a United States Marine Corp. Veteran and owner/operator of his own telecommunications business.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years - Karen Stilley McDonough; daughters - Cindy (Michael) Nolen, Winfield, Kassandra Elbert, Newport News, Va., and Michelle M. (Steve) Isaacson, Newport News, Va.; grandchildren - Melissa (Jamie) Gilmer, Sulligent, Amy (Kevin) Wheeler, Sulligent, Katelyn (David) Coleman, Birmingham, Alyssa (Brandod) Faison, Newport News, Va., Samantha Crombine, Newport News, Va. and Megan (Tye Houston) Jackson, Newport News, Va.; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and his church family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents - Donald D. McDonough, Sr and Doris M. Barclay McDonough; his stepmother - Edna McDonough; and a brother - Donald D. McDonough, Jr.   
A private family memorial service was held at a later date.

Wanda Juanita Roberts

Wanda Juanita Roberts, 93, Fayette, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her daughters - Sheila (Jerry) Perry, Nelda (Calvin) Madison, and Martha (Bo) Duvall; grandchildren - Jennifer (Curtis) Self, Nathaniel (Raven) Perry, Wanda (Jody) Howell, Kelly Duvall, Robert Duvall, Russell (Brittani) Madison, Wesley (Jenna) Madison, and Colton (Emily) Madison; great-grandchildren - Elizabeth Self, Drake Perry, Tanner Howell, Taylor Howell, Henley Madison, Hayden Madison, Walker Madison, Melissa (Ben) McFarland, Michael Duvall and Avery Duvall; and great-great-grandchildren - Ava McFarland and Caitlyn McFarland.
She was preceded in death by her parents - Belton and Audine Smith; husband - John Clayburn Roberts; sister - Imogene Smith Shaw; brother - Billy Doyle Smith; and nephews - Danny Shaw and Steven Smith.
The funeral service was held on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Lon D. Moon was the officiating minister. Pallbearers were Nathaniel Perry, Curtis Self, Russell Madison, Jody Howell, Tanner Howell, and Wesley Madison. Honorary pallbearers were Fayette Medical Center, Long Term Care Staff.

Betty Jean Clark Whitman

Mrs. Betty Jean Clark Whitman, 77, Hamilton, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, in the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss.
Mrs. Whitman was born on Aug. 29, 1942, to Elmer and Lillie Mae Clark in Hamilton. She was a 1960 graduate of Hamilton High School, a member of Fulton Bridge Baptist Church in Hamilton, and was employed by the Auburn Extension System for 41 years.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years - Mr. Hugh Whitman, Hamilton; a brother - Donny (Linda) Clark, Hamilton; niece - Roxanne Whitman, Ill.; nephews - Adam Don (Sarah) Clark, Augusta, Ga., Brandon Allen (Alisha) Clark, Pelham, Cody Michael (Ali) Clark, Hamilton, James Wayne (Vickie) Whiteman, Ill., and Michael Whitman, Ill.; great-nieces - Teagan, Finleigh, Sierra; a great-nephew - Dawson; and a host of other relatives, church family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents - Elmer Clark and Lillie Mae Clay Clark.
The funeral service for Mrs. Whitman was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Fulton Bridge Cemetery. Brother Michael Stancil was the officiating minister.
