WINSTON COUNTY  - Horace Moore, a veteran not only of the newspaper business but law enforcement as well, will respectfully replace Tommy Moore as Winston County’s sheriff next week.
Horace will step into the role of sheriff during a swearing-in ceremony on Monday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Winston County Courthouse in Double Springs. Performing the honors will be Winston County Probate Judge Sheila Moore. He will officially take over as sheriff at midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
Tommy, who announced in November his plans to resign due to ongoing health problems, will be entrusting the office into the hands of Horace, who has worked closely beside him at the sheriff’s office not only as reserve deputy sergeant, but also as the department’s public relations officer the past five years.
“I am proud to appoint Mr. Horace Moore as sheriff of Winston County,” Gov. Kay Ivey stated. “The men and women serving in law enforcement play a critical role in our communities across the state, and I am confident Mr. Moore will serve the people of Winston County well.”
