JR hiring a sportswriter

Journal Record is looking for an ambitious employee who is self-motivated, ready-to-work, and a quick learner. This role is ideal for someone who is determined, hardworking, not shy and has above-average sports knowledge.

The Journal Record sportswriter is responsible for providing sports news coverage for Marion County, Alabama.

The Journal Record is a county newspaper published each Wednesday that provides sports coverage for six area schools. As a sportswriter, the employee will be required to travel to multiple sporting events weekly to take photos, record statistics and write articles. This role requires a flexible evening schedule that will be balanced with normal daytime office hours. The writer will conduct interviews with coaches and occasionally be responsible to manage correspondents who submit information.

Applicants should be well-versed with computers, typing and writing. Some experience in journalism, photography and working in an office setting is beneficial. A reliable means of transportation is required.
