Lady Pirates beat Lady Aggies in county clash

WINFIELD - Winfield earned a 60-42 victory over rival Hamilton on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A’s sixth-ranked Lady Pirates led 18-11 at the end of the first period before outscoring the Lady Aggies 17-9 in the second to hold a 37-20 halftime advantage.
Winfield scored 16 points in the third while Hamilton had seven points. The final period saw Hamilton trim Winfield’s lead by outscoring the Lady Pirates 15-9 to make the final score of 60-42.
The Lady Pirates’ Shelby Evers finished with a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds. She also had a block.
Anna Kate Crumpton had nine points and three rebounds. Abbie Junkin and Andrea Harbin each had eight points.
Junkin added eight rebounds and an assist while Harbin had four assists, three steals, three rebounds and two blocks.
Emma Kate Tittle had seven points, four steals, two rebounds and an assist.
Kristen Wilson had five points and two assists. C’era Beck and Presley Guin each had four points.
Beck added two assists, two steals and a rebound. Guin had one rebound, one assist and a steal.
The Lady Aggies’ Hollingsworth finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Frost added 10 points while Childers pulled in seven rebounds.
The victory improved Winfield to 8-0 on the season while the loss dropped Hamilton to 5-5.
Monday, Dec. 10
DANVILLE - Winfield defeated Class 4A Danville 55-50 with three Lady Pirates scoring in double-digits.
Winfield’s Junkin finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and a steal.
Harbin and Beck each had 11 points. Harbin added seven rebounds, one block and an assist. Beck added six rebounds and two steals.
Evers had five points, seven rebounds and a steal. Tittle and Crumpton each scored four points.
Tittle added four assists, three steals and two rebounds. Crumpton contributed two rebounds, one assist and a steal.
Wilson had three points, one assist and a steal. Guin had two points, three rebounds and an assist.

WATERLOO - Brilliant defeated Waterloo 49-44 behind Alexis McCarley’s 32-point effort.
Taylor Guyton added nine points while Carrington Barnett had five points. Kaitlyn Wyninger contributed three points.
Tuesday, Dec. 11
BRILLIANT - Brilliant suffered a 39-33 loss to  Lynn.
The Lady Tigers’ McCarley finished with a team-high 13 points.
Taylor Guyton added nine points while Azia Handley had seven points. Abby Humphries contributed four points.
Monday, Dec. 10
Brilliant came from behind to defeat Hackleburg 45-34 for the Lady Tigers’ third win of the season.
Hackleburg led 22-17 at halftime before Brilliant went on a 17-0 run in the third period to take a 34-22 advantage into the fourth.
The Lady Panthers were unable to complete a fourth-quarter comeback despite outscoring Brilliant 12-11 as the Lady Tigers earned the 11-point victory.
Brilliant’s McCarley and Taylor Guyton finished with 14 points apiece.
Barnett and Humphries added six points each while Natalie Beasley had five points.
Hackleburg’s Audrie Wood finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Abbie Mitchell added 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal.
Anna Rivera had seven points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Emily Bruns contributed four points, 10 rebounds, one assist and a block.
Matti Kirk had two points and six rebounds while Madison Browning pulled down a rebound.
Thursday, Dec. 6
Marion County defeated Brilliant 48-45 in the opening round of the Northwest Alabama Conference Girls Basketball Tournament.
The Lady Tigers’ McCarley finished with a team-high 16 points.
Taylor Guyton added 12 points while Barnett scored 10 points.
Handley and Wyninger had four and three points, respectively.

Monday, Dec. 3
Brilliant lost to Belgreen 80-39 despite having six Lady Tigers score.
Brilliant’s Humphries had 11 points while McCarley and Taylor Guyton added nine points apiece.
Wyninger and Handley had four points each. Hannah Guyton scored two points.
Friday, Nov. 30
BRILLIANT - Brilliant fell to Vina 64-29 despite McCarley scoring a team-high 14 points.
Taylor Guyton finished with five points while Barnett and Humphries added four points apiece. Handley contributed two points.
Thursday, Nov. 29
Brilliant suffered a four-point 52-48 loss to Berry.
The Lady Tigers’ McCarley finished with a team-high 20 points.
Taylor Guyton added 13 points while Barnett had 11 points.
Handley and Humphries each had two points.

HACKLEBURG - Hackleburg lost to Belgreen 57-24 on Thursday, Dec. 13.
The Lady Panthers’ Mitchell finished with a team-high 14 points.
Bruns added five points while Rivera had four points. Kirk converted on a free throw for one point.
Tuesday, Dec. 11
HUBBERTVILLE - Hackleburg suffered a 53-40 loss to Hubbertville.
The Lady Panthers’ Rivera finished with a team-high 16 points.
Mitchell had 10 points while Wood and Kirk each scored six point. Bruns added two points.
Thursday, Dec. 6
HACKLEBURG - Hackleburg lost to Lynn 38-26 with Mitchell scoring half of the Lady Panthers’ points.
Mitchell had 13 points, four rebounds, three steals and an assist.
Rivera had six points, five steals, two rebounds and two assists. Wood added four points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal.
Kirk had two points, six rebounds and a block while Stormie Rackard had one point, three rebounds and two steals.
Bruns contributed seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Browning added two steals and two assists.

HAMILTON - Hamilton cruised to a 50-12 victory over Northside on Monday, Dec. 10.
Hamilton’s Anna Grace Frost finished with a game-high 13 points--to outscore the Lady Rams by herself.
Paisley Sorrells and Brittany Allen added eight points apiece.
Lexie Childers and Mia Hollingsworth pulled down six rebounds each while Hollingsworth added seven assists.
Friday, Dec. 7
RUSSELLVILLE - Hamilton won its second-straight Class 5A, Area 14 clash with a 49-41 win over Russellville.
The Lady Aggies’ Paisley Sorrells finished with a team-high 16 points.
Hollingsworth and Aubrey Sorrells added nine points apiece.
Hollingsworth also had six steals, five rebounds and five assists. Childers came away with five steals.
Thursday, Dec. 6
HAMILTON - Hamilton picked up its first Area 14 victory by edging out Lawrence County 57-56.
The Lady Aggies’ Frost finished with a team-high 14 points. Paisley Sorrells added 11 points.
Hollingsworth had 10 points and seven rebounds. Childers added seven rebounds.

Marion County
GUIN - Marion County defeated Hubbertville 47-32 on Friday, Dec. 14.
The Lady Raiders’ Cara Sullivan finished with a game-high 20 points.
Madison Stewart and Erin Culp added seven points apiece. Josie Lipsey scored six points.
Mackenzie Pearce had five points while Caitlyn Jones added two points.
Thursday, Dec. 13
GUIN - Marion County slipped past Brilliant 47-46 on Thursday, Dec. 13.
The Lady Raiders’ Culp finished with a team-high 13 points.
Sullivan and Jones added 10 points apiece. Stewart scored five points.
Pearce had four points. Lipsey added three points while Torie Taylor had two points.
The Lady Tigers’ McCarley finished with a game-high 27 points.
Guyton added 13 points while Carrington Barnett added four points. Humphries scored two points.
