MONTGOMERY - Winfield nabs two mentions in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Week 5 Prep Spotlight.
The Pirates’ Jackson Elkins and Chris Broyles each received a mention in the spotlight.
Elkins completed 12-of-17 pass attempts for 204 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score in Winfield’s 38-14 victory over Hamilton.
The senior quarterback has completed 51-of-73 passes on the year for 903 yards and 12 scores with just two interceptions. Elkins has added 41 rushes for 196 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, he has 16 total tackles (12 solo, four assists).
Broyles added 19 carries for 173 yards and two scores to lead the Pirates’ rushing attack.
Through the first six games of the year, Broyles has compiled 696 rushing yards on 74 touches. He also has 11 rushing scores. The senior added seven receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown.
The overall spotlight went to Lincoln High School and the team’s game-winning “hook and lateral” in a 28-27 victory over Munford.
The Bears’ head coach, Matt Zedaker, called the play at their own 1-yard-line on fourth-and-19 to give Lincoln the 99-yard scoring play in the final two minutes of the game.
