District 4 prescribed most pain pills in U.S.

Dr. Brent Boyett

In a study performed by Harvard University, Congressional District 4, home to Marion County, was shown to have the highest rate of prescribed pain pills in the country.
However, with Alabama already being identified as having the highest percentage of prescribed pain pills in the world, District 4 then becomes the highest concentration of prescribed pain pills in the world.
The 4th Congressional District, represented by Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville, includes Marion, Franklin, Lawrence, Winson, Cullman, Marshall, DeKalb, Etowah, Walker, Fayette and Lamar counties.
Dr. Brent Boyett of Hamilton, who specializes in addiction treatment,  weighed in on the local opiate (pain pills derived from opium) crisis. Boyett is board certified in addiction medicine and has served as the principle investigator in several clinical trials and has also served as a clinical advisor for the pharmaceutical industry in the development of new treatment options for addiction.
