Charges against Estes dismissed

Misdemeanor domestic violence charges against State Representative Tracy Estes, who was arrested in September, 2024, based on an alleged incident that took place a month prior, have been dismissed, in return for conditions outlined in a plea agreement reached Thursday, Jan. 9, in Marion County District Court.

WINFIELD — The Marion County Hazmat Team was presented with a $25,000 check from BNSF Railway on Wednesday, June 26, at the Winfield city fire station.

Meaning behind words: Examining our National Anthem

To my own embarrassment, a recent event afforded me a few moments to do something I had not done in quite some time--contemplate the words and meaning of our National Anthem.
Invited to sing our anthem at the Marion County School System teacher in-service event in August, I actually listened to the words for the first time in what seemed an eternity.
As the words flowed across my lips and those in attendance stood at attention, the words had meaning like never before.

While the passage of time can usher in gray hair and the occasional body aches, one of the most cherished gifts presented with each turn of the calendar is a greater appreciation for dear friends and those who have truly impacted your life. Such is the case in my life with Hamilton resident Bill Nowlin. Most in Marion County know we lost my friend unexpectedly earlier this month. But the impact this Southern gentleman made on me will continue to live well beyond his years...
