Annual supplu drive for Safeplace is a success; community thanked for its efforts

HAMILTON — Marion County Domestic Violence Task Force Secretary Sarah Emerson, who also chairs the annual supply drive for Safeplace, recently shared information with the newspaper for a followup on this year’s event.
“Our annual Domestic Violence Task Force Supply Drive was an incredible success!” she said. “We were able to partner up with many civic organizations, churches and businesses across Marion County to gather supplies that will directly impact our local community.
“The supplies given were divided up, with the majority of them being taken by Safeplace to be used at the Marion County Shelter.
“Other supplies were taken directly to survivors of domestic violence who the task force is working with or set aside to be used in the hygiene kits we supply to many law enforcement and community agencies.
“We are grateful for all of the donations and for those who contributed this year to the supply drive! You are making a difference in the lives of others here in our area!”
Emerson noted the MCDVTF would also like to express its thanks for a recent donation.
“We would like to thank the City of Hamilton for making a $1,000 donation again this year during our supply drive,” she said.
“Mayor Bob Page, the city council, municipal judge Wyatt Howell and  magistrate Jeannye Palmer truly understand the impact domestic violence has on our community and have been wonderful community partners to work with!”
Emerson noted the MCDVTF is a 501(c)3 non-profit which aims to "Stop the Silence of Domestic Violence" through education, awareness, training and assisting survivors of domestic violence in our community.
“We have many things in the works or planned ahead for this year - including our annual golf tournament, Purple Thursday, a law enforcement training and additional community outreach events,” she said.
“In addition to supporting the Marion County Shelter, the task force directly works with survivors of domestic violence locally when a need is referred to us through our community partners.
“Recently, we have purchased numerous security cameras, door jams and window alarms to provide to survivors who request them and have begun to distribute them when there is a need.”
