Free tree giveaways set for Feb. 19 in Hamilton and Feb. 20 in Winfield

HAMILTON & WINFIELD — The Alabama Forestry Commission has scheduled its annual tree giveaways for Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Hamilton and on Thursday, Feb. 20, in Winfield.
Both locations will hold the tree giveaways from 9 a.m. until noon in front of the city halls of both municipalities.
Trees will be free while supplies last. Information on best planting practices and tree care will also be available from on-site forestry specialists and printouts.
These dates and times are tentatively scheduled, with weather and tree availability possibly forcing some re-scheduling.
The public is encouraged to check social media for the Alabama Forestry Commission Facebook page for updates to ensure the timetable remains as printed. You can also call the local forestry numbers at 205-707-1001 or 334-561-5468.
Some of the free tree saplings include Southern Crab Apple, Eastern Redbud, Flowering (white) Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Maple, Bald Cypress, Swamp White Oak and Pecan.
Both Hamilton and Winfield have been designated as Tree Cities for more than a quarter of a century. The tree giveaways are in honor of Arbor Week.
