Patricia Ann Jones, 75, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023 at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville.
Born in Marion County on Dec. 12, 1947 to William (Bill) Ashbury and Nava Flora Swinney Jones, Patricia lived her young life in Hamilton with her siblings: Harold Jones, Viola Hollandsworth, Theo Jones, Jenell Cantrell, Dellree Whitehead and Billy Wayne Jones, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends nearby.
Patricia graduated from the University of North Alabama with a degree in education. She then lived in Europe while serving her country in the United States Army (stationed in Germany). When she returned home to civilian life, she continued to serve in the army reserves. Patricia had a passion for making sure all kids had the chance to learn, so she worked as a teacher in Birmingham. She then earned her master's degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Later, she worked in computer science, retiring from Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville at the age of 71.
Patricia was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but she loved her family. She did not have children of her own, so she showered her eighteen nieces and nephews with her love. As great nieces and nephews came along, she looked forward to opportunities to spend time with them as well. Patricia will be remembered for all the heart she shared with her family and friends. When her time came, she carried herself with strength and dignity. She was ready to go to heaven to be with her Lord and her family members who had gone before her. As she was dearly loved, she will be dearly missed.
Patricia leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Mary Jenell Cantrell of Hamilton, Dellree (Kline) Whitehead of Tega Cay, SC; brother-in-law Adia Hollandsworth of Rockford, Ill.; sister-in-law, Dora Jones of Hamilton; sister-in-law, Norma Pearce of Birmingham; 11 nephews; seven nieces; many great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by brothers Harold, Theo and Billy Wayne Jones, and her sister Viola Hollandsworth.
Funeral services were held at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery on County Highway 42.
