Mrs. Rosell Gravitt Southern, 101, of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023, in the Diversicare Health Care Center in Winfield. Mrs. Southern was born in Marion County, Ala. on June 4, 1922, to Hansel and Nellie Goddard Gravitt. She was employed with the Cotton Mill industry in Haleyville and Winfield as a spinner for 40 years. Rosell was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a loving caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Southern is survived by her daughter, Hilda Smith (Lynn); grandsons, Devin Smith (Hollie) and Greg Carroll (Randa); great-grandchildren, Ryan Sims (Cory), Anna Rose Sims, Brooks Smith (Karly), Baron Smith, Bellarose Smith, Jacob Carroll (Brianna), Aubrianna Carroll and Caleb Carroll; great-great grandchildren, Carter, Nola Rose, Cam, Ellie Carroll and Maggie Jean Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernie Southern; parents; daughter, Sharon Naramore; grandchildren, Regina Sims and Jeff Carroll; sisters, Glynell Williamson, Margaret Courington, Dot Whitworth, Jean Self, Bobbie Roberts, and Chrisine Hallman; and brothers, Carl and Ray Gravitt.
Funeral services for Mrs. Southern were held on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Winfield City Cemetery.
