George Walter Crews

Mr. George Walter Crews better known as “GW”, 84, of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, in the Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham.  
He was born in Fayette County on Feb. 20, 1938, to Grady and Audie Flyne Crews. Mr. Crews was a member of the Mt. Willing Freewill Baptist Church. He was a farmer, small engine repairman and musician. He was a very talented man that has written many songs and always told others he was inspired by Hank Williams, Sr. to write songs and play music.  
Mr. Crews is survived by his wife of 38 years - Linda Johnson Crews; son - David (Tammy) Ray of Carbon Hill; grandchildren - Nathaniel (Ashley) Ray of Florida and Courtney (Michael) Riddick of Hawaii; eight great-grandchildren; nephews - James Sprinkle and Noah Sprinkle; a sister-in-law - Mary Ann Sprinkle; and a host of other relatives, church family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother - James Crews.
The funeral service for Mr. Crews was held on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from the Mt. Willing Freewill Baptist Church with burial following at the adjoining cemetery.
