HAMILTON - This past Friday, the 4-3 Hamilton Aggies hosted the 4-2 Gordo Green Wave. The Aggies searched to snap their three-game losing streak while the Green Wave rolled into Sargent Stadium ready to bounce back from their 24-21 loss to the Northridge Jaguars. Gordo dominated from the kickoff and never let up, finishing the game with a huge 54-0 win.
Gordo received the opening kickoff and immediately marched downfield. Each first down was accompanied by another first down, and there was little resistance to the progress from the offense. The Green Wave burned through the defense, capping the drive off with a touchdown through a 20-yard pass. With still 7:57 left in the first stanza, Gordo took a 7-0 lead over the Aggies.
The Aggie offense almost answered the call, but their drive fell short on fourth down at the Gordo 17. The Hamilton defense held strong as they immediately forced a Green Wave punt before the second quarter began. An empty Aggie drive led to an assertive drive from Gordo, leading to a 34-yard rush en route to a 25-yard touchdown reception from Tanner Bailey to JJ O’Bryant. The PAT split the uprights, and with 8:21 left in the second period, Gordo extended their lead to 14-0.
The Green Wave offense picked up right where they left off after an unsuccessful drive from the Aggies. The long drive led to yet another touchdown completion from the Gordo offense, growing their lead to 21-0 and leaving 1:53 on the clock until halftime.
Nothing else came out of the first half of play, and the Aggies couldn’t capitalize off their opening third-quarter drive. The Green Wave followed their stop on defense with a 90-yard touchdown pass on the first play of their drive, making their lead 28-0 over the Aggies.
The Aggies couldn’t muster up a first down before they punted their possession away. The Green Wave would rush right past them on the punt return for another touchdown, stretching the Gordo lead to 34-0 with 6:30 left in the third stanza. The following PAT, though, was blocked by Hamilton’s Hudson Williams.
Hamilton’s offense never got the chance to answer, as the Gordo defense forced another three-and-out. The Green Wave took the opportunity to score again, this time through a 61-yard ground attack with 1:59 left in the third quarter. Another PAT was missed for Gordo as the score increased to 40-0.
 
Nothing was going right for the Aggies as they fumbled their possession away on the first play of the drive at the Hamilton five. Gordo’s offense left the field after one play, which was a five-yard rushing touchdown to start the fourth quarter.
A good PAT upped the score to 47-0, as Gordo continued their reign of dominance over the Aggies.
The Aggies faced an early third down on their drive, where they fumbled possession to Gordo for a scoop-and-score score with 4:47 left in the game to reach a score of 54-0. The Aggies then held possession until the end of the game, sealing off the win for Gordo’s squad.

The now 5-2 Gordo Green Wave will search to carry their dominance over to the next game as they will host the 4-3 Fayette County Tigers, while the 4-4 Aggies will travel to face off against the 4-4 Addison Bulldogs in search of a win.
Nevin Elkins pitched back to Chambers for a 24-yard gain on the Bears’ next possession.  Chambers kept it on the next play for the touchdown.  
Llinares was good on the PAT once more, and the Bears had a 56-0 lead with 4:57 left in the half.
A holding penalty against the Bears helped Cherokee out, but a fumble by the Indians helped the Bears after Jayden Sanchez recovered it near midfield.  
Byrd took the handoff on the next play up the sideline to the end zone.  Inigo De lis came in for the PAT and missed this one, but it didn’t matter because the Bears were ahead 62-0 with 1:50 left in the half.  
Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Cherokee, they did.  Jordan got a scoop-and-score for the Bears 8 seconds after their last touchdown.  
De lis was good on the PAT this time, and the first half ended with the Bears up 69-0.
Five-minute quarters were put in place for the second half, and the Bears scored their last touchdown on the night on their first possession, which began at midfield.

 Chambers hit Hayden Kelley in the end zone for the touchdown.  Llinares got his 9th PAT on the night, and the final was 76-0.
The Bears’ win Friday night is the largest margin of victory in the school’s football program history, according to the Alabama High School Football Historical Society.  
However, this was not the most points scored by the Phillips Bears during a single game in school history.  That happened in 2008, when the Bears defeated Vina 82-44.
This week’s game will not be as easy for the Bears, as one of their chief rivals, Hackleburg, comes to town for a region game.
 The Panthers are 4-2 coming into the game, with only one region loss this year.  Game time is 7 p.m.
