Wilds family farm recognized by state

HAMILTON – Wilds Horse and Cattle Company has been designated as an Alabama Century & Heritage Farm.
Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries Assistant Commissioner Bob Plaster presented farm owner Jason Wilds and his family with a certificate and signage honoring his family’s farm during a Marion County Cattlemen’s Association meeting on Thursday, Jan. 23, in Hamilton.
Wilds Horse & Cattle Company, located six miles north of Winfield, was purchased by James Henry and Sara Webb on Dec. 26, 1904. They raised cattle and mules and grew cotton, corn and a variety of vegetables. They also operated a sorghum mill and had a logging operation.
The farm has been owned and operated by the same family for over 100 years. The property has been passed down to family members over the years. The great-grandson of the original owner, Jason Wilds, took ownership in 2014.
