WINFIELD - Fifteen years after retiring, well-known health care executive Robert Henger is returning as chief executive officer of Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.
Henger was originally hired as CEO of Northwest Medical Center by Dr. Robert Carraway in 1995 when the hospital was owned and operated by Carraway Medical Center of Birmingham.
In 2003 the hospital was sold by Carraway Hospital to a for-profit rural healthcare system in Nashville, Tenn., Lifepoint, Inc. After leading the hospital through its transitional year under Lifepoint, Henger retired to Birmingham at the end of 2004. Three different times during the 10-year ownership by Lifepoint, he returned for short stays while a new CEO was recruited.
