• Lady Pirates outscore two
opponents by 98 points in tournament
FAYETTE - Winfield dominated the West Alabama Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Finals with a 63-20 victory over Sulligent.
The Lady Pirates led 26-16 at halftime after outscoring Sulligent 11-7 in the first period and 15-9 in the second.
Winfield used a second-half surge to put the game away against the Lady Devils. Winfield held Sulligent to four total points in the second half--two points in each quarter--while scoring 22 and 15 in the third and fourth periods, respectively.
The Lady Pirates’ Anna Kate Crumpton finished with a double-double by recording 12 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. She also notched a steal.
Andrea Harbin led the way on offense with 15 points. She also had five rebounds, three steals, one assist and a block.
Emma Kate Tittle added 11 points, two assists, two steals and a rebound.
Abbie Junkin had nine points, four rebounds, two steals and a block.
Shelby Evers added eight points and seven rebounds. C’era Beck contributed five points, three assists and a rebound.
Kristen Wilson had three points and an assist. Presley Guin added three rebounds.
Harbin and Beck shared the tournament’s most valuable player honors.
The Lady Pirates improved to 15-0 on the season with the victory.
Friday, Dec. 21
FAYETTE - Winfield’s Beck led the Lady Pirates to a 76-21 win over Lamar County with a 17-point outing in the WAC semifinals.
The Lady Pirates led 20-4 at the end of the first quarter before adding to their lead with a 25-11 second-quarter run to lead 45-15 at halftime.
Winfield continued adding to its lead in the third by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 21-2. A final period run of 10-4 rounded out Winfield’s 55-point victory.
Along with her 17 points, Beck added three rebounds.
Crumpton had 14 points, four rebounds and an assist. Harbin added 11 points and a rebound.
Junkin and Wilson each contributed 10 points. Junkin added five rebounds and two steals while Wilson had a steal.
Tittle scored eight points, pulled down four rebounds and had three steals.
Guin scored four points and recorded a rebound. Evers added two points, one assist and a steal.
