Matthew Puckett: Playoff picture coming into focus

Every team in Marion County is now over halfway to the end of the season.
Some schools still have playoff hope while others are watching it quickly fade away. The Golden Rule for most regions is three region wins and you are in. That’s the basis of my analysis.
Unfortunately, Brilliant is eliminated from a playoff berth with the Tigers having four region losses after last week.
Hackleburg, despite having just one win so far this year, is still alive. Winning two of the team’s next three games will get the Panthers into the playoffs.
Hamilton is technically alive, but with the final three region game opponents boasting a combined 13-5 worksheet, the idea of making the playoffs is looking very dim.
Marion County needs just one win in its final three games to clinch a playoff appearance.
Winfield sealed its postseason berth with the team’s fourth region victory last week. The Pirates’ biggest concern is winning two of the last three to guarantee a No. 1 seed.
Last week’s games gave me by far my worst week so far this year. I went 2-2 with misses for both Hamilton and Marion County. That gives me a 24-5 record on the year. I’m hoping to improve on a .500 record last week. (Prediction is designated in bold text).

All games are scheduled to be played on Friday, Oct. 12, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.

Berry @ Brilliant

Phillips @ Hackleburg
