Fire Training

Matt McCracken, Assistant Fire Chief of the Hamilton Fire Department monitors a trainee during a training exercise at the old Sitel building in Winfield on Thursday, July 12. McCracken, an adjunct instructor for the Alabama Fire College, was teaching the 40-hour course that involved 15 firefighters from the Hackleburg, Hamilton, and Winfield fire departments. McCracken said the class was held to train the Winfield firefighters on the new aerial device the city recently purchased and also to allow the firefighters from the three municipalities to get used to working together if a mutual-aide situation arises. “If we have a large fire in Hamilton, we’re going to be calling for Hackleburg and Winfield, both, to bring their aerial devices, so this gives all of our firefighters a little more face-time with each other. Any time that you can train together, it really makes for a better situation in a real time event,” McCracken said.
