Mrs. Norma Jo Haney Smith, 89, of Hoover, formerly of Winfield passed away on Jan. 10, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born in Winfield on June 18, 1934 to Obie and Pauline Reese Haney. Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Guin. She attended Kirklin Elementary School and Winfield High School where she graduated in 1953.Soon after taking her first job in Tuscaloosa, she met her husband James Smith, to whom she was married 59 years. Being the wife of an enlisted U.S. Air Force Sargeant, her travels took her from the rolling hills of Alabama to living all over the southeast and ultimately to the sands of the Arabian deserts in Saudi Arabia. Norma exemplified strength and unwavering dedication to her family and country. She raised 4 children through numerous deployments, having to move as often as the government required. She lived a life committed to duty. Norma always loved to travel with her family and made many memories that will last a lifetime for those who she leaves behind. Norma can be described as one who lived her life exemplifying the fruits of the spirit. She will be greatly missed by her family but as believers we do not mourn as those who don’t know Jesus. We Look forward to seeing her again, healed and in the arms of Jesus.
