GUIN — The Marion County High School Red Raiders fell to the visiting Fayette County High School Tigers 55-28 on Friday night, Sept. 29.
The Tigers took early control of the game after recovering a Raiders’ fumble not long after the opening kickoff. They would be the first to score to take a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers scored again after intercepting a pass to go ahead 14-0.
The Raiders got close to scoring, but a series of tackles and an incomplete pass resulted in the Tigers taking over on downs at their own 12 yard line.
The Raiders were able to force a punt, but that punt set them back deep in their own territory and chose to punt on fourth down as the game entered the second quarter.
The Tigers scored again after a quick advance to take a 21-0 lead.
When the Tigers kicked off, Marion County’s Dalyce Floyd made a strong return all the way to the Tigers’ 25 yard line. From the 23 yard line on second down, Joe Aldridge threw a pass to Tye Madison, who made the catch despite defensive coverage.
The 2 point conversion attempt was broken up, but the Raiders were on the scoreboard 21-6.
The Raiders kicked off, and once again the Tigers made steady gains and scored another touchdown to increase their lead to 27-6 after an unsuccessful 2 point conversion.
The Tigers scored once more in the first half to enter the locker room at halftime with a 34-6 lead.
The Raiders kicked off to open the second half, and the Tigers scored again, going up to 41-6.
Each team’s next possessions ended in punts, but when the Raiders got the ball back, they seized the opportunity.
From first and 10 on their own 42 yard line after the punt, Madison scored a touchdown on a 58 yard reception and scored again for 2 more points to bump the score up to 41-14.
The Tigers would turn around and score again on a short pass to increase their lead to 48-14.
The Raiders had the ball when the fourth quarter began, and a few minutes in, they were able to score another touchdown on a keep by Aldridge to go up to 48-20.
The Tigers scored their final touchdown of the game to gain a 55-20 lead.
The Raiders would score their final touchdown after Samuel Taylor made a series of runs to put them in good position. Taylor scored the touchdown and Madison earned two more points to set the final score at 55-28.
This Friday night, the Raiders will travel to Clements High School in Athens to play the Colts.
