Joyce Sizemore Cicala, 78, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023 at her home in Waldorf, Md.
Joyce or “Jo” as some of her family and friends referred to her as, was born in Lamar County, Winfield, Ala. on May 20, 1944 to Daniel and Rosie Hollis Sizemore. She was a 1961 graduate of Winfield City High School and attended the University of North Alabama, in Florence, Ala., where she was recruited to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Washington D.C. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Frank Cicala of 48 years. After working at the FBI, Joyce went on to work at the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. until she retired.
After retirement, Joyce served on the board at the Kettering Community Association in Largo, Md. for 15 years as well as worked for the Area Wide Market Research Inc., Gaithersburg Md., for well over 20 years. She took great care of her family. She was very proud of her daughter and family. She was very well loved by everyone she met. She loved to be with and spend time with her family and friends. She especially loved going to Traders in Chesapeake Beach, Md. every Sunday with her daughter to eat great seafood and play the penny slots. The people at Traders were considered great family friends and she loved going there to see them all. Joyce loved spending time with family, going to the beach, eating seafood, listening to old 50’s music, Elvis, and going on trips with and to see her Alabama Family. She was a fun, loving, and very special person who will be greatly missed.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Cicala, a US Army Veteran; and her brother Everett Sizemore of Coker, Ala. She is survived by her step daughter, Vicki Cicala; her brother, James Sizemore of Winfield; sister, Dorothy (Howard) Hughes of Winfield; sister-in-law, Peggy Weeks Sizemore of Coker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Joyce was held at the Raymond Funeral Chapel, Laplata, Md., on May 18, 2023. The private burial was held at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery .
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Joyce may do so by making a donation, in her name, to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., as flowers are limited at the burial site.
