HOLLY POND- The Winfield Pirates continued their path toward a Class 3A, Region 6 championship with a dominating 46-0 victory over the Holly Pond Broncos on Friday, Oct. 8, at Holly Pond.
The win improved Winfield to 8-0 on the season and 5-0 in Class 3A, Region 6.
The Pirates defense through eight games is only giving up 5.4 points a game, while the offense is rolling up 41.5 points per game.
Winfield jumped on the Holly Pond early and never let up, running out to a 33-0 halftime lead and cruised to the 46-0 final.
“It was a good win and I'm tickled to death for the win,” said Winfield head coach David McKinney in an interview following the game. “Our defense played well and we had a lot of young guys that got to play a lot tonight and that's good going forward into next year.”
“We just have to keep working and get better on ourselves, and we had four starters out tonight,” McKinney said.
“It was a very big region win, and we are trying to get healthy and get ready for Pennington next week.”
