BRILLIANT — The South Lamar Stallions shut down the Brilliant Tigers 47-0 on Friday night, Sept. 17, during the Tigers’ homecoming game.
South Lamar won the coin toss, but chose to defer and kick off to the Tigers to start the game.
The Tigers ended up with the ball back on their own 34 yard line. Wiley Hanson kept the ball and ran, but couldn’t gain any yards. A fumble in the back on second down brought the Tigers back even farther. On third down, the Stallions intercepted a pass and took over on the 20 yard line.
Brilliant’s defense held the line until fourth down, when the Stallions threw a touchdown pass with 8:45 left in the first quarter. The extra point was good, putting the Stallions in the lead, 7-0.
The Tigers got the ball on their own 39 and made a hard drive, With Hanson and Barton making runs to keep the chains moving and get across midfield.
But as the Tigers got close to the Stallions’ 30 yard line, their momentum stalled and the Stallions took over on downs on their own 36.
