Hackleburg Elementary students pen letters for wounded soldiers

HACKLEBURG - Local elementary school students have sent bundles of letters to wounded American servicemen.
Hackleburg Elementary School and the Sonny James American Legion Post partnered together to write and send the letters to the soldiers who remain hospitalized in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., just outside Washington, D.C., who was wounded in the Aug. 26 suicide bombing at the Kabul airport.
The attack occurred as the U.S. government attempted to coordinate its massive withdrawal effort of Americans and allies before a deadline of Aug. 31. Eleven Marines were killed in the attack, as well as one Army soldier and one Navy corpsman. Initial reports said 170 Afghans were also killed in the attack were killed during the incident at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.
