Martha Rose Howell

Ms. Martha Rose Howell, 62, Winfield and formerly of Fayette, passed away at her residence.  Martha was a 1975 Winfield City High School graduate and a Registered Nurse.
Ms. Howell is survived by her sons - Noah (Sara) Howell, Gulf Breeze, Flo. and Jonah (Lisa) Howell, Winfield; her mother - Faye Howell, Winfield; sister - Rebecca (Robert) McEachern, Fayette; and a brother - John Mark (Jeannie) Howell, Wash.  
She was preceded in death by her father - Bryan K. Howell.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Anna Grace Murphy

Anna Grace Murphy, 31, Hamilton, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020, at her residence.
She was born in Sheffield on Friday, Oct. 21, 1988, to Robert Michael Murphy and Lisa Cunningham Murphy.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children - Calen Broyles, Mariah Broyles and Carter Broyles; mother - Lisa Murphy; sister - Jenny (Luke) Hall; nephew - Eason Hall; grandfather - Robert Murphy, Scottsboro; uncles - Jim (Janet) Cunningham, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Patrick (Lynn) Murphy, Peach Tree City, Ga.; and a host of cousins and friends.  
She was preceded in death by her father - Mike Murphy; grandparents - James Cunningham and Henrietta "Sis" Cunningham; and grandmother - Eugenia Murphy.  
A graveside service was held on Monday, June 1, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. with Bro. Todd Clippard officiating.

Lettie Marjorie Vaughn Parr, 84, Tuscumbia, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020.

Harold Dean Pendley

Mr. Harold Dean Pendley, 70, Winfield and formerly of Fayette County, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at his residence.
Mr. Pendley was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Winfield. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector of the church. He attended high school in Oakman and earned his GED while serving in the United States Navy.
After serving two tours in Vietnam and his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Pendley went to work for Loomis Armored Car and began his police career at Oceanside Police Department. He enlisted into the Army National Guard and retired as Sergeant (E5) in June of 2009.
Mr. Pendley worked for 38 years in law enforcement, serving Fayette County as Chief Deputy, the City of Brilliant as Chief of Police and Marion County as Lieutenant and Jail Administrator.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years - Deborah Pendley; two sons - William “Bill” (Brandy) Pendley and Jimmy (Vickie) Pendley; grandchildren - Courtney (Sybil) Gentry, Kayla Pendley, Gunter Pendley, Brody Pendley, Lauren Pendley, Regan Pendley, Jackson Reese and Callyn Pendley; great-grandchildren - Carson Gentry and Sadie Gentry; a sister - Diane (Ken) Yeaglin, Ariz.; and a host of other family, friends and his law enforcement family.
Mr. Pendley was preceded in death by his parents - Virtus Pendley and Margaret Gertrude Earnest Pendley Liss.
The funeral service for Mr. Pendley was held on Friday, June 5, 2020, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Winfield with burial following in the Gibson Hill Cemetery in Walker Co. Father Anthony Weis officiated the service.

Ernest Pugh

Ernest Pugh, 94, Guin, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.
Mr. Pugh was born on August 25, 1925, in Guin. He is the son of the late Alec and Alice White Pugh and the husband of the late Erleen Cain Pugh. He had lived in Guin all of his life, was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, a mason, a member of the Civitan's Club and a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.
He had worked at Alabama Oak Flooring, Guin Housing Authority and Sunset Manor Nursing Home.
He is survived by a daughter - Teresa (Larry) Anton, Greenville, S.C.; a son - David (Denise) Pugh, Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife - Erleen Pugh; a daughter - Margaret Gunnels; five sisters; and three brothers.
A graveside service was held on Friday, June 5, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Webb Cemetery with Bro. Kenny Hatcher officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Webb Cemetery Fund.

Barbara Lynn Mills Shindorf, 60, Haleyville, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020, at her residence.
She was born in Adrian, Mich. to Foy Mills and Carolyn Jones Mills.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband - Cal Shindorf; sons - Joshua Mills, Tulsa, Okla., and Chris (Brianna) Mills, Grand Haven, Mich.; brothers - Michael (Carol) Mills Mich., David (Shawn) Mills, Ore.; nephews - Ryan Mills, Chicago, Ill., Bradley Mills, Wyoming, Mich., Tyler Mills, Grand Haven, Mich., and Kyle Peavey, Coldwater Mich.; niece - Kim (Sam) Vanhorn, Coldwater, Mich.; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; one grandmother; a mother and father-in-law - Richard and Vicki Shindorf; five Shindorf nieces; six Shindorf nephews; and a host of friends.

Peggy Faye Stiles

Mrs. Peggy Faye Stiles, 74, Winfield and formerly of Birmingham, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020, at her residence.
Mrs. Stiles is survived by her husband of 54 years - Tommy Stiles; her daughters - Marisa Stiles and Miranda Stiles; a granddaughter - Marley Bennett; brother-in-law - Jim Burch; her niece - Sara Reagan; and a host of other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents - Johnny Mack Murphree and Mary Lou Petty Murphree; and two sisters - June Burch and Jean Knight.
The funeral service for Mrs. Stiles was held on Thursday, June 4, 2020, at 12 p.m. at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Winfield City Cemetery. Pastor John Loper was the officiating minister.

Danial Thomas Treas

Mr. Danial Thomas Treas, 83, Brilliant, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
He is survived by his stepdaughter - Jada (Mike) Tittle, Dogtown; stepson - Al (Stephanie) Corkren, Brilliant; grandchildren - Brandon (Amber) Samuals, Dogtown, Cody (Amanda) Corkren, Brilliant, Ethan (Brooke) Corkren, Brilliant, and Monica and Chelsea Corkren, both of Mobile; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.  
Mr. Treas was preceded in death by his wife - Pat Treas; stepson - Jeffery Corkren; his parents - Virgil Lex Treas and Hazel Mildred Cunningham Treas; one brother; and one sister.

Ernestine Spiller Shirley Wood

Ernestine Spiller Shirley Wood, 95, Brandon, Fla., and formerly of Brilliant, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, peacefully at her residence in Florida.
Mrs. Wood was a member of Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Winfield for many years where she played the piano and dedicated her talent to the Lord. She was an elegant woman with a heart of gold and a devout christian that loved her family and her church.
She was born on Sept. 28, 1924, to Jeffrey and Rebecca Spiller. She loved playing the piano, planting flowers in her garden and interior decorating.
She was a multiple clothing store manager and decorator in her early years in Chicago. While in Chicago, she was fortunate enough to dress the famous actor “Cesar Romero”. Later she became an interior decorator in Mobile. All of her beautiful talents and work were always expressed from stores to people’s homes.
Mrs. Wood rightfully earned her title as “grandmother” from all of her grandchildren. She was the rock of her family, and a true warrior. She survived many dark times and obstacles in her life time but still remained a strong, christian lady throughout it all. She is truly loved by her family and will be missed forever.
She is survived by two granddaughters - Gina Shirley and Cassie (Stephen) Wilson; four great-grandchildren - Christopher (Jennifer) White, Kimberly (James) Brown, Shawn Robbins and Miranda Castillo; and five great-great-grandchildren - Alexandria White, Brandon White, Leila White, James (Jimmy) Brown, Jr. and Tatumn Brown; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents - Jeffrey and Rebecca Spiller; sister - Ozelia Harris; an infant sister - Jewel Spiller; brothers - R.D Spiller, Ralph Spiller, Ray Spiller, Earl Spiller and Carl Spiller; husbands - James Alton Shirley and O’Dell Wood; and her son - Tony Shirley.
A private family burial for Mrs. Wood was held at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
