MARION COUNTY — Through Saturday, Feb. 28, Marion County is joining chapters across the country in celebrating the National Future Farmers of America Organization during National FFA Week, a time set aside to recognize the powerful impact of agricultural education, student leadership and community service.
This year’s celebration carries special meaning. In 2026, FFA members nationwide are honoring the 100th anniversary of the iconic blue corduroy jacket — a symbol recognized in classrooms, livestock barns, board rooms and state capitols alike. For a century, that blue jacket has represented opportunity, leadership and a commitment to service.
Right here at home, FFA chapters at Winfield High School, Marion County High School, Hamilton High School, Hackleburg High School and Phillips High School are preparing a full week of activities to showcase the theme for 2026: Celebrating the impact of FFA on students, families and rural communities.
Throughout the week, local members will take part in school, community and service-based activities that highlight how agricultural education shapes more than future farmers. It builds leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists, mechanics, teachers and community advocates.
Starting the week were observances such as Service and Advocacy Day (Feb. 22) and Alumni Day (Feb. 24). Today (Wednesday, Feb. 25) is Advisor Appreciation Day, which shines a spotlight on the agricultural educators who mentor, challenge and inspire students daily. These advisors do more than teach lessons. They cultivate confidence, work ethic and lifelong skills.
On Thursday, Feb. 26, the focus will be on fundraising efforts that support chapter activities, leadership conferences, competitions and classroom projects. Community support during this day helps ensure opportunities remain strong for current and future members.
The celebration wraps up in a visible show of pride on Friday, Feb. 27, as members and supporters are encouraged to wear their blue jackets or blue apparel, a tribute to the century-old symbol that continues to unite generations.
FFA Week
While National FFA Week celebrates history, it also points toward the future. In Marion County classrooms, students are learning about agricultural mechanics, plant and animal sciences, environmental stewardship, agribusiness and emerging technologies. They are competing in career development events, leading service initiatives and discovering how agriculture connects every person, every day.
The blue jacket may be 100 years old, but its story is still being written, right here in Marion County.
If you’ve never visited a local FFA chapter meeting, attended a banquet, or seen students in action at competitions or community events, National FFA Week may be the perfect time to learn more. Behind those blue jackets are young leaders shaping the future of our rural communities and their stories are just beginning.
