Lola Mann

Lola Ann Isom Mann, 99, gained her angel wings from her Heavenly Father on April 9th, 2024. Regarding her legacy, she will be remembered as a woman of great faith. She could see the presence of the Lord in all people. Mrs. Mann was born on Feb. 9, 1925 to Fremon and Dollie Isom of Hackleburg, Alabama. She was the second child born of fourteen children: Elijah, Lola, Newton, Cullen, Rubie, Irma Jewel, Julian, Curtis, Nela Dean, Joe, Fay, Jimmy, Billy Fray, and Kenneth. Mrs. Mann loved and enjoyed growing up in a large family. She graduated from Hackleburg High School in 1944 and then attended the University of Alabama. Mrs. Mann married the late L.B. Mann on Nov. 28, 1946 and they were married for sixty-two years. During World War II, Mrs. Mann became a "Rosie the Riveter". Her job was to put ammunition powder in bags in a factory in Huntsville, Alabama. Mrs. Mann also enjoyed several years of teaching school. She spoke often of her teaching years and she expressed deep-felt love for each of her students. She taught at the schools of: New Home, Wiginton, Shiloh, Hackleburg, Gravel Springs, Hodges, and Phillips Elementary. Through receiving many accomplishments, she was highlighted to receive the "Best Local 4-H Leader" in Franklin County while teaching at Hodges. In 1979, she received the award of "Alumnus of the Year" during the Hackleburg Alumni Banquet. Mrs. Mann was a member of the Hackleburg First Baptist Church. She resided in Hackleburg most of her life until she re-located to Hamilton when her home was destroyed by the April 27, 2011 Hackleburg tornado.
Mrs. Mann is survived by three children, Benny Darvan (Karen) Mann, Gloria Darlene (Billy) Palmer, and Laura Dena (Harry IV) Starr; two grandchildren, Carolina Ann (Buddy) Guthrie and Derek Alexander Palmer; and one great-grandchild, Southerlynn (Sam) Ann Marie Guthrie.
Mrs. Mann is also survived by a host of many relatives and friends who will always treasure the memories of her. Mrs. Mann's presence will be missed, but she can now celebrate in a "dwelling provided by God, a dwelling in the heavens not made by hands, but a dwelling to last forever".
The family would like to send their appreciation to the Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton, Alabama for their care of Mrs. Mann since June 2021. The family would also like to thank Hamilton Funeral Home for their care and services provided.
Pastor Gene Thomas officiated the funeral. Karen Wheaton Towe and Janet Alexander sang "Where We Will Never Grow Old", "The Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace" and "Sweet By and By". She was laid to rest at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Hackleburg.
